Volkswagen Cabrio Antenna

Volkswagen Cabrio Antenna makes the convertible pick up clear AM or FM transmissions by converting invisible radio waves into electrical signals that can be amplified by the stereo system, ensuring that even with the roof open the music and traffic information remain consistent. The device is made of a small steel tube that is attached to the receiver with wires; this is connected to the amplifier, and the aim of the device is to capture the power of the passing radio wave with the intention of adding the power to the sound system so that it can be amplified in volume and clarity. Volkswagen has provided three major styles of Antenna over the years. The interior version is concealed within the windshield, dashboard, or even the trunk lid to ensure that the car lines remain unbroken and are not weathered or vandalized. Its conventional external mast, made of metal though occasionally of fiberglass, extends upward toward the hood or the trunk, and once it was extended to the unmanageable forty-five inches, the original owners had to pull it down by hand before fitting it inside the garage. The contemporary Volkswagen models prefer shorter masts or stubs that slice through the air but provide good reception. The last, which is the satellite roof Antenna, is a small puck on the sheet metal that expands the number of stations and produces clearer digital sound. The major distinctions between these types are in mounting point, length, and spectrum they can handle, but their purpose is the same to direct quality signals to every Cabrio cockpit, thus making road trips in a Volkswagen more entertaining.

Volkswagen Cabrio Antenna Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install fender and roof mounted antennas on Volkswagen Cabrio?
    A:
The fender mounted antenna can be removed by opening the hood, loosen the retaining nuts and removing the ground strap on the left of the hood and fender. Then release the retaining screws, and the left footwell side trim panel to expose the antenna lead connection in order to separate the two halves of the antenna lead. Unscrew the retaining screw behind the left wheelarch liner, depress the pin in the center of the fasteners, and detach the liner, and install new ones, which might be necessary, in case the center pin is missed. Take the antenna lead and ground lead through the wheelarch so that they are correctly positioned and unscrew the nut that attaches the antenna mounting bracket after which a bracket is slipped off the antenna base. Pull the antenna out and down and retrieve the mounting grommet of the fender and check both of the mounting and bracket grommets to see if they are damaged and replace it as needed. To install, find the mounting grommet on the fender and slide the antenna firmly in place making sure the mounting bracket is pushed into place and the nut screwed firmly. Trim the antenna lead and ground lead and feed them through their apertures in the fender, reconnect the two halves of the antenna lead internally in the car and refit the footwell side of the trim panel. Return the ground lead back to the hood / fender, screw the retaining nuts in place and retest the antenna functionality and then install the wheelarch liner and make sure it is held in place by its fasteners and screw. In order to disassemble the roof mounted antenna, the liftgate may need to be opened, trim strip at the rear of the headlining pried out carefully, and the headlining peeled back to access the antenna retaining nut and lead connector. Unscrew the antenna lead and wiring connector, unscrew the retaining nut and take the antenna off the roof and retrieve the sealing grommet. To refit, find the sealing grommet and the antenna in the roof hole, refit and tighten the retaining nut, and restore the connection of the antenna lead and the wiring connector and clip the headlining trim strip back.
