What precautions should be taken when replacing the battery cables on Volkswagen Golf R?

A Battery Motioning Control Module is included in the negative battery cable in models that have the active start/stop system. During the process of disconnection of the cables, never disconnect the cable on the negative side of the battery first and connect last so that there is no chance of shorting out the battery using the same tool that has been used to loosen the cable clamp. Although it is just to change the cable with the positive terminal, disconnect the negative cable attached to the battery before doing so. Unplug the old cables off the battery and trace each of them at the other end, unplugging them, and noting how each cable is running to make sure that it is installed correctly. Whenever replacing any of the old cables, it is very important to carry the old cables to purchase new ones since it is important to have the same parts of the cables. Use a wire brush to clean the threads of the solenoid or ground connection and eliminate rust and corrosion, and a light coat of battery terminal corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly to the threads to prevent future corrosion. Connect the cable with the solenoid or ground, screw the mounting nut/bolt firmly. Prior to attaching a new cable to a battery, make sure that it does not stretch as it reaches the battery post. Connect the cable to the positive battery terminal then attach the ground cable at the negative battery terminal. In models that have the active start/stop system, the Battery Motioning Control Module cannot be replaced individually, it must be replaced with the cable. The Battery Motioning Control Module should be used on the new battery cable when changing the negative battery cable on a vehicle that had the active start/stop feature in place of the old negative cable.
