Volkswagen Golf SportWagen MAP Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is the MAP Sensor accessed in the charge air intake duct on Volkswagen Golf SportWagen?
    A:
The sensor is located in the charge air intake duct. For 1.8L and 2.0L CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, and CPRA engines, the air filter housing assembly must be removed to access the sensor. For all other 1.8L and 2.0L engines, the front of the vehicle should be raised and supported on jackstands, followed by the removal of the engine undercover. Once located, the electrical connector should be disconnected. The sensor fasteners need to be removed or the tabs released, allowing for the sensor to be taken out of the duct. The O-ring should be discarded, and a new one must be used during the installation of the same sensor, which is done in reverse order of removal.
  • Q: How to remove and install the Air Temperature Sensor and MAP Sensor on Volkswagen Golf SportWagen?
    A:
The process is used on all engines other than 2.0L turbocharged CBFA and CCTA engines, the MAP sensor is positioned on the intake manifold and it is near the throttle body. The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor goes hand in hand with the MAP sensor and is referred to as Intake Manifle Sensor. Start by taking away the engine cover. In the case of 1.4L engines, the air filter housing is to be taken out. The second step is to find and unconnect the electrical connector of the MAP/IAT sensor. Unclip the MAP sensor off the manifold or loosen the mounting fasteners wherever possible but take care not to lose the O-ring because there is no replacement part, a new sensor is supplied. Installation is a backward process of removal.
