Volkswagen Golf SportWagen Throttle Body Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What steps must be taken to properly remove and install a throttle body control module after disconnecting the battery on Volkswagen Golf SportWagen?
    A:
This means that there are a number of systems that have to be re-teamed whenever the battery is disconnected in order to work well. With the addition of a new throttle body control module, the program in the Engine Control Module (ECM) will have to be rewritten using the factory scan tool. Start by removing the cable of the negative battery terminal and the engine cover. In 1.4L engines, take off air filter housing, disconnect air charge pressure sensor connector, disconnect emission hoses on the clips on the intake air duct, disconnect hose on the duct, loosen clamps holding duct to throttle body and to turbocharger outlet, disconnect throttle body electrical connector, remove four bolts and bracket and remove throttle body off the intake manifold, and installing it is the opposite of the way to remove it. In 1.8L and 2.0L turbocharged engines, lift the vehicle on jackstands, undo the charge air pipe fasteners, unplug the electrical connector of the charge air pipe, unclamp the clamps on each end of the charge air pipe, unplug the electrical connector of throttle body, unscrew the mounting fasteners of throttle body and carefully remove throttle body off the intake manifold, being careful not to drop the throttle body gasket and cover the opening in the intake manifold with a clean shop towel In case of 2.0L non-turbocharged engines, the intake air hose clamp on the throttle body is loosened, the throttle body electrical connection is disconnected, the four bolts are removed and the throttle body is detached, checking the throttle body seal condition. In the case of 2.5L engines, disconnect the vent hose, the secondary air injection pump hose and air inlet pipe clamp, disconnect the air inlet pipe and in some cases, remove the air guide connector-to-radiator support fasteners. Please detach the electrical connector and vent hose, remove throttle body mounting fasteners, take throttle body off intake manifold with care, clamping off coolant lines where necessary, changing hose clamps where necessary, inspect throttle body gasket, covering intake manifold aperture, snapping throttle body fasteners to correct torque.
