If the battery is disconnected, several systems must be re-learned before they will work properly. First, disconnect the negative battery cable. For the heater and air conditioning control assembly, use a trim tool to carefully pry out the control assembly trim panel starting along the bottom edge and then the sides until it can be removed. Next, remove the control assembly screws and pull the control assembly out from the instrument panel, then disconnect the electrical connectors from the rear of the control head. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. For flexible shafts, remove the glove box and the instrument panel support fasteners. Depress the large retaining tab and remove the instrument panel support from behind the instrument panel, ensuring the retaining tab is depressed before installation. Looking through the right side of the instrument panel, rotate the air distribution knob until the retainer for the flexible shaft is visible in the set-up gear. Remove the heater and air conditioning control assembly, then depress the cable retaining clip and separate the cable from the control housing. Carefully pry each side of the control housing out of the instrument panel, use a small screwdriver to lift the retainer and disconnect the flexible shaft from the gear, and depress the retainer to disconnect the flexible shaft from the control housing. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
