Other alternators might contain a one way clutch, which is necessary to be hand-overed to the new alternator. To start with, unconnect the cable at the negative battery contact and take off the engine cover. On four-cylinder models starting with 2014, raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands, next remove the air inlet hoses and turbocharger charge air pipe on turbocharged vehicles. In non-turbocharged models, eliminate the air filter housing. Second, take off the drivebelt, loosen the coolant pipe mounting bolts in turbocharged type, take off the air conditioning compressor in 2.0L turbocharged type. Disassemble the cal connectors off the alternator, pull off the mounting fasteners and exchange the alternator. On models afterwards and 2015, remove the EVAP canister (where applicable), make sure that the alternator mounting bushings are not blocked, and elevate the front of the car (and support it) using a jack. In 1.4L engines, disconnect the hose to the lower coolant, auxiliary pump to coolant, disconnect the drivebelt, hold the air conditioning compressor and take out the mounting bolts to the alternator. To get to the electrical connectors, rotate the alternator, unplug them and pull out the alternator. In Jetta, 1.8L and 2.0L 2015-2017, loosen the bolts of the coolant pipe and unscrew the oil pressure switch (where applicable) and unscrew the alternator in the same way. To remove the existing turbocharger piping and add the new turbocharger piping in Golf 1.8L or 2.0L engines or Jetta 2.0L engines (2018 and later), first remove engine cooling fans, drivebelt, upper alternator bracket bolts, and turbocharger piping electrical connector and then remove alternator. With five-cylinder models, lift up the front of the car, take off the air inlet off the radiator support, position the radiator support panel in the service position, take off the drivebelts, tensioners, disconnect the electrical connector of the alternator, remove the mounting fasteners. Removal is the opposite of installation whereby the alternator mounting fasteners should be tightened and the reconnection of the cable to the negative battery terminal is made and the charging voltage should be checked to determine whether it is operating as expected.
