Volkswagen Jetta Fuel Pressure Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to release the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable based on the Fuel Pressure Sensor on Volkswagen Jetta?
    A:
Take the fuel system pressure off and unhook the negative battery cable. In 1.4L engines the fuel pressure sensor is fitted at the end of the fuel rail, undo the air filter housing (to access the sensor) disconnect the electrical connector, undo the sensor by unscrewing it off the fuel rail, but do not use any kind of sealant over the threads in the fuel rail during fitting, which is the opposite. In case of 1.8L and 2.0L turbocharged engines (except CBFA and CCTA), undo the engine cover, bracket bolts of the coolant pipe near the alternator as well as the charge air pressure sensor connector. Next, take out the intake duct in throttle body to intercooler, the intake manifold bracket, and the disconnection of the electrical connector of the fuel pressure sensor, possibly the disconnection of the alternator connector to get more room. To remove the sensor, unscrew it and when installing the sensor, apply clean engine oil on the threads. In 2.0L CBFA/CCTA turbocharged engines (where needed), the duct taking air to the passenger in between the intercooler and the turbocharger can be removed, the bolts connecting the bracket to the alternator are removed, as well as the bolts connecting the coolant line to the intake manifold, which should be moved out of the way. The opposite of the removal is to disconnect the electrical connector of the fuel pressure sensor, unscrew and take the sensor out of the fuel rail and apply clean engine oil on the threads when installing the sensor.
  • Q: What precautions should be taken when working on fuel pressure sensors in fuel systems on Volkswagen Jetta?
    A:
On five-cylinder engine type whenever the fuel system is opened it should be bled to avoid damaging the catalytic converter. The next step presupposes that the Fuel Pump is fed with the voltage and is operational. The battery has to be disconnected a number of times whenever it is disconnected, a number of systems have to be re-learned before they will operate correctly. To begin with, lift the vehicle and place it on jackstands unless there are other ways of doing it. Secondly, de-pressurise the fuel system and remove the fuel line connected to the outlet of the fuel filter. Insert the fuel pressure gauge between the fuel line and fuel filter or at the fuel feed line connection at the Fuel Rail or high-pressure fuel pump (where fitted). As an alternative, in case the fuel rail has a Schrader valve, attach pressure gauge to it. Turn the engine on and leave it idling with a gauge reading on it when the pressure has evened out, and comparing the reading with the required pressure. When the fuel pressure is out of specifications, then ensure that there is no restriction in the fuel system when the pressure is below the specifications, or ensure that the fuel pressure sensor is not faulty when the pressure is above the specifications. Switch off the engine; it should not take the fuel pressure less than 14.5 psi within ten minutes. In case it is, there is a possibility that it is a leaking Fuel Injector, leak in the fuel line, or a broken fuel pump. Lastly, release the fuel system pressure and unhook the fuel pressure gauge then hook up the fuel line once again to the fuel filter.
