Volkswagen Cabrio Cooling Fan Temperature Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How can the Cooling Fan Temperature Switch be tested and installed on Volkswagen Cabrio?
    A:
Electric cooling fan thermo static switch test should also be done as a part of electric cooling fan test procedure. This is placed on the left-hand side of the Radiator and the radiator and engine should be cold before being removed. The first step is to remove the negative battery cable, with the appropriate anti theft stereo system activation code. Drain the cooling system below the switch point, or fit an appropriate plug to avoid the possibility of coolant leaking out during the process of changing the switch. Unplug the wiring plug and unscrew the switch off the radiator. To install, follow the reverse processes of the processes of removal, a suitable sealant with the threads of the switch should be applied and tightened to the desired torque value and the cooling system should be refilled. Turn on the engine and make sure that the cooling fan is working properly. The sensor of coolant: The coolant temperature gauge sensor, which constitutes a part of the fuel system/preheating system, clips into the coolant outlet elbow at the front of the cylinder head and has a thermistor, which changes resistance as the temperature varies. In case of gauging failure, verify the other gauges and the electrical feed, in case the gauge needle is stuck on the cold end, ground the temperature gauge wire to check the sensor. In case the needle is not moving, test the continuity of wiring. In case the sensor has stuck to the hot end of the needle, unplug the sensor wire to know whether the sensor is faulty or not. To remove it, drain the cooling system partially, or make a plug, unconnect the negative battery cable, and pull the wiring out of the sensor. Slide the sensor unit, depressing the sensor unit, to remove its retaining clip and withdraw the sensor, regaining the sealing ring. Installation: To perform installation, a new sealing ring must be utilized, the sensor pushed into the coolant elbow, attached with the retaining clip, the wiring must be reconnected, and the cooling system refilled. The coolant temperature sensor of the fuel injection/preheating system is joined with the coolant temperature gauge sensor, and it should be testified by a VW dealer.
