These procedures are only applicable to Golf GT/ models having DSG 09D transaxles. Start by lifting the front of the car and firmly stabilizing it on jackstands, and position the transaxle in the Park position. Disassemble the passenger side driveaxle heat shield and driveaxle and then disconnect the front exhaust pipe to the engine which should be supported by the vehicle. Find the differential lock, unconnect the electrical connector to the module and oil level thermal sensor, loosen the lower transaxle mount bracket bolts and the mount bracket. Then loosen the bolt that is holding the passenger driveaxle flange in the differential lock and loosen the bolts that hold the differential lock housing to the transaxle and be sure that before handing it over, you have a drain pan under the transaxle to receive any fluid leaking out. Keeping the differential lock assembly is a delicate issue and therefore, the same process should be conducted in the process of installation; this is that the differential lock assembly should be removed, in a careful manner and reassembled in the same way on which the tightening of the fasteners should be done to the required torque and the filling of the differential lock fluid to the required level. After removing the differential lock, pry out the seal keeping the differential lock to the transaxle and with a small slide hammer remove the shaft seal in the differential lock housing. Apply grease to the new seal contact surfaces and press the new seals into the differential lock with the open sides of the seals controlling the differential lock housing. One can substitute the output shaft seal with the differential lock in the car; unbolt the driveaxle of the passenger side of the car off of the flange, remove the bolt at the center of the flange, and then use a slide hammer to take out the flange and shaft assembly. Remove the seal out of the differential lock housing, seal the new seal surfaces with grease, and push the new seal into the differential lock using the open end facing the differential lock housing. Mount the flange and shaft in the differential lock housing until it fits in fully, applying a dead-blow hammer to install the locking ring in the differential lock and the final step is to reverse the steps of installation.

How to replace the Differential Seal along with the drive flange seals and pinion seal on Volkswagen Passat?

In order to replace the drive flange seals, one should first prop the rear portion of the car up in the air and place it on jackstands by ensuring that the front wheels are blocked. Un bolt the driveaxle of the drive flange and hold it with wire. Put a drain pan underneath the differential, hold the flange with a screwdriver, and screw out the center bolt to remove the drive flange. Use a seal removal tool to pop the oil seal out and stuff the new seal with grease and load it into the bore until it snaps. Where the drive flange is worn out it should be replaced. Change circlip on the drive flange, grease the contact surface and refit the drive flange, screwing the bolt to the required torque. Connect the driveaxle again and examine the level of lubricant in the differential. In the case of the pinion seal on a VW Passat, one should lift the rear, hold the driveshaft up, and the differential down. Calculate the distances between the flange mating surface and the pinion shaft and nut, and unscrew the pinion nut and take out the flange with the help of a puller. Remove the old seal and change O-ring on the pinion shaft. Apply oil to the new seal and carefully press it in and re-fit the pinion flange and nut with the distances being the same as before. Install the nut collar, clean the driveshaft CV joint, and lower it and tighten the bolts. Measure the level of lubricant in the differentials. In the case of the Audi A4, repeat the same process of unbolting the driveshaft, support the differential and de-bolt the torque tube. Take the sleeve and the shaft out using a puller and then pry out the old seal. Lubricate the new seal, reinstate the shaft and torque tube and reconnect everything, making sure to tighten all bolts to the stipulated torque and checking the level of the differential lubricant.
