  When the fuel system has been opened on a five-cylinder model it should be bled to eliminate the risk of damaging the catalyst converter. There are a number of systems that have to be re-learned whenever the battery is disconnected before they can work properly. All the models follow the following procedure with the in-tank Fuel Pump. First, discharge the fuel system pressure and release cable which is attached to the negative battery terminal. In order to check the fuel pump module inspection cover, the rear seat cushion should be removed, the carpeting should be lifted back, and the access hole cover should be found. In four-cylinder models, the Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) is mounted to the top of the cover, and it is important to take care when handling it because it is not needed to deconnect the electrical connector to the FPCM unless one needs to replace it. Unscrew the electrical connector and electrical lines of the fuel pump module and label them so that they are not confused with each other upon reconnection. Unscrew the lock ring of the fuel pump module with a special tool or pliers, then pull out the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module (as a unit) out of the tank, and ensure that you do not damage the fuel level sensor float arm. Some of the models might have suction tube to the fuel pump module hence take caution when removing. Install the ring by clamping it with the pliers and turning the ring clockwise and the rest of the installation is the same as the removal. Bleed off the fuel system on five-cylinder models.
