Volkswagen Golf Fuel Tank

The major duty of the Volkswagen Golf Fuel Tank is to safely store gasoline and to provide the engine with a constant feed regardless of the driving circumstances. The electric pump and level sender are located inside the reservoir, and internal baffles prevent the fuel from rushing away during sharp turns or stops, which means that the engine does not run out of fuel and the cabin noise is not loud. Since the Fuel Tank is also linked to the EVAP system it keeps vapor emissions at bay and thus meets the environmental requirements of the day. Early Golf models applied a stamped steel shell, with later generations using blow-molded high-density polyethylene, each being a trade-off between strength and weight saving. Stamped steel does not dent easily but may rust in the presence of road salt, so Volkswagen paints it and secures it with strong metal straps, although decades of use can still result in leakage. The plastic units reduce weight and resist corrosion, but high temperatures or debris may crack them, a compromise Volkswagen considered when choosing the materials of various trim lines. In track duty the drivers of Volkswagen racers commonly replace the production tank with a flexible fuel cell, which reduces the fire potential after an accident. All Fuel Tanks, irrespective of type, are leak-tested in the factory and supplied with a new locking ring and seal to provide a tight fit when bolted under the car. When the Fuel Tank and its straps are inspected regularly, any damage is detected in good time before it affects safety.

Choose OEM Fuel Tank for superior quality and long-lasting durability. They match the Volkswagen's factory specifications exactly and pass strict quality control. If you plan to replace Fuel Tank on your Golf, put OEM at the top of your list. You'll get the right fit, reliable performance, and peace of mind. Volkswagen Golf Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What precautions should be taken regarding the fuel tank and battery disconnection on Volkswagen Golf?
    A:
On five-cylinder models, whenever the fuel system has been opened it must be bled to prevent damage to the catalytic converter. Whenever the battery is disconnected, several systems must be re-teamed before they will work properly. The following procedure is much easier to perform if the fuel tank is empty. Begin by removing the fuel tank filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure, then relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the rear seat cushion, disconnect the Fuel Pump control module for four-cylinder models, and disconnect the electrical connector and fuel supply line quick-connect fittings from the fuel pump module. For AWD models, ensure to remove the additional access cover and disconnect the transfer pump/fuel level sender connector. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the right-rear wheel and the rear inner fender splash shield. On Golf models, open the fuel tank filler flap, remove the mounting fastener and plastic liner, then disconnect the fuel filler tube mounting fasteners and hoses. On all Jetta models and 2014 and earlier Golf models, unclip the ABS sensor wire from the bracket, remove the rivet and protective shield. Disconnect the exhaust system hangers and remove the center and rear mufflers from the vehicle. If equipped, remove the fuel filter and cap the fuel lines. During the next step, note that the fuel filler tubes remain attached to the fuel tank and are removed as a unit with the fuel tank. Support the fuel tank securely, remove the fuel tank mounting fasteners and the retaining strap mounting fastener, then remove the strap and carefully lower the fuel tank. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the fuel tank mounting fasteners to the specified torque. On five-cylinder models, bleed the fuel system, reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal, then start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
