Volkswagen Golf R Variable Timing Solenoid Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Variable Timing Solenoid on Volkswagen Golf R?
    A:
With regards to 1.4L engines, the variable camshaft adjustment solenoids are mounted on the valve cover by the cam cover. Start by taking off the engine cover and then unelectrical connector of the camshaft adjustment solenoid valve. Then unscrew the mounting bolt of the solenoid valve and remove it out of the valve cover and dispose of the O-ring. Installation is also in the opposite direction, with a new O-ring. The solenoid of variable camshaft adjustment is located at the front of the upper timing chain cover in engines with a 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter turbocharged engines (with the exception of two solenoids in some models). Begin by lifting the engine cover followed by unconnecting the electrical connector linking the camshaft adjustment valve. Take out the retaining fasteners, the valve and the seal making sure to replace the adjustment valve seal and O-ring. Disassemble the electrical connector with the camshaft adjustment valve and loosen the mounting fasteners of the valve and detach the valve itself off the upper timing chain cover, including the O-ring. Installation is the opposite of removal and lubrication of the new O-ring with engine oil is taken. Removing the engine cover and the electrical connector of the camshaft adjustment solenoid valve are to be done in 2.5L engines. Take off the mounting fastener of solenoid valve and rip the O-ring off of the cylinder head. Here the process of installing is once again the opposite of de-installing with a new O-ring.
