The metric-sized steel belted radial tires are installed in all of the vehicles and the use of different sizes and types can influence the ride and handling. The handling of the vehicle can be severely affected by mixing of the various types of tires like radials and bias belted tires in the vehicle. Replacement of tires is advisable in pairs on the same axle and when one tire is being replaced it should be of the same size, structure and tread design as the other one. Tire pressure is an important factor in the handling and wear, and needs to be inspected at least once a month or prior to longer travels. The wheel should be changed when it is bent or dented, if it loses air, has a long bolt hole, high level of rust, no vertical symmetry, and the wheel bolts are unable to fit tight, one should not weld or peen it. Balancing tires and wheels is the most important in the overall handling, braking, and performance because unbalanced wheels may adversely affect the handling, ride, and tire life. Each time a tire is fitted in a wheel, the shop should balance the tire using the right gadgets.
