Volkswagen Jetta Vacuum Pump

The Vacuum Pump in the Volkswagen Jetta provides a constant vacuum to ensure that the power brakes and other engine-controlled features remain functional even with low manifold vacuum. The Vacuum Pump is mounted on the cylinder head and can act off the camshaft or have its own electric motor, which pulls air through the booster circuit to create about 12 psi of negative pressure, which keeps the brake pedal light. This vacuum is also directed to HVAC doors, turbo controls and emission valves on diesel or direct-injection versions, such that a broken Vacuum Pump can lead to stiff brakes, minimal acceleration and the cabin being caught at the wrong temperature. Three main styles were installed by Volkswagen over the years. The first models utilised piston or diaphragm units that were actuated by the camshaft; subsequent engines applied small oil-lubricated vane pumps at the cam nose; and more recent models may have an electric module, which uses little fuel since it pumps only when the pressure is low. Vacuum Pumps vary in their drive source and lubrication, and the common trouble indicators include oil leakage, noisy operation or a hard pedal. Volkswagen mechanical pumps share oil with the engine and therefore any metal debris or heat from previous engine damage can easily destroy them; the electric pumps will not, but can easily overheat or suffer bearing wear. Once significant engine work is done, owners of Volkswagen vehicles are advised to install a new Vacuum Pump, as debris may reduce its lifespan, and neglecting the symptoms in a Jetta may be unsafe.

Choose OEM Vacuum Pump for superior quality and long-lasting durability. They match the Volkswagen's factory specifications exactly and pass strict quality control. Volkswagen Jetta Vacuum Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How does a Vacuum Pump affect the re-learning of several systems after disconnecting the battery on Volkswagen Jetta?
    A:
In case of battery disconnection, before the battery is reconnected, a number of systems have to be learned again to be used correctly. The first one is to release the fuel system pressure and then the cable is to be removed by disconnection to the negative terminal of the battery. Secondly, take out the engine cover and air filter housing. Disconnect the line of the vacuum with its brackets and then with the pump. Take out the coolant line bracket bolts and re-fit the coolant line aside without bending. In four-cylinder models, take the high-pressure fuel pump out. Next, take out the three bolts and disattach the vacuum pump off the cylinder head. Wipe the gasket surface on the engine and the pump with it is to be refitted. Fit a new gasket to the vacuum pump, holding it in place by applying RTV sealant. Install the pump on the engine making sure that the drive dogs of the pump shaft contact the slots in the sprocket. Lastly is the installation of the bolts and tightening them to the required torque, the rest of the installation process is the reverse process of the dismantling process.
  • Q: What steps should be taken to disconnect and remove the vacuum pump on Volkswagen Jetta?
    A:
In case of battery disconnection, a number of systems will require to be re-learned before they can perform normally. Depending on the model the vacuum pump is either on the front side of the transaxle or the rear. Start by removing the cable on the negative battery. In the case of a model that has the vacuum pump at the front, remove the engine cover. In the case of someone having a vacuum pump at the rear, lift the front of the car up to a certain level and then place it safely on jackstands and then take the shield off the above left driveaxle. Then, detach the vacuum line of the pump. Unplug the electrical connector of the vacuum pump and the electrical connector of the harness, and lay the harness aside. Unscrew the mounting bracket of the vacuum pump that has retaining bolts, and screw out the pump and the bracket as one. Install the pump to the bracket by removing the vacuum pump-to-bracket retaining fasteners. The opposite of removal is installation.
