When the battery is disconnected, a number of systems will have to be re-teamed before they will work correctly. In order to take out the water pump, initially, take off the engine cover and detach the cable of the negative terminal of the battery. Lift the front of the car and place it firmly on jackstands, then take off the splash shield at the bottom of the car below the engine and empty the cooling system, which can be used again if possible. Removal of battery and battery tray, air inlet resonator, disconnection of the EVAP hose quick-connect fitting apply to 1.4L (CZTA, DGXA) engines. Unscrew radiator hoses to the thermostat house, unscrew coolant hoses, and un-screw connector fasteners to the turbo charger. Unscrew the wiring harness retainer and take the water pump toothed belt cover screws out. Disassemble the coolant hose on the back of the thermostat housing, unscrew the water pump mounting fasteners and lift the pump in order to detach the toothed belt to the water pump pulley. Wipe down the top and side of the cylinder head, the thermostat housing and new water pump, fit new seals, and tighten bolts in that order. Install a replacement toothed belt of the water pump, make sure that the tension of the water pump is correct before final torque is done. In case of 2.0L (CBPA) engines, take away the timing belt and tensioner and the water pump bolts. Reassembling requires new O-ring and gasket. In 1.8L or 2.0L engines, take off the right front inner fender liner, unhook numerous hoses and electrical connectors, and take out the water pump. Call in clean surfaces, and fit new seals, with centering pins properly into place. In 2.5L models, take off the battery, battery tray, drivebelt and exhaust pipe fasteners and then excavate the water pump out of the car. Installation is opposite of de-installation of all engines, then refilling and bleeding of the cooling system and leakage checking. In the case of electric coolant pumps, elevate the vehicle, empty the cooling system, pull of electrical connections, and hose down, and hose off mounting screws. The process of installation is the opposite of removing, when the cooling system is filled and bled.
