Removal of the battery would cause problems with the driveability, which could be solved with the help of the scan tool. Moreover, it can cause warning lights to be lit on the instrument panel that will also require a scan tool to switch off. First of all, you should disconnect the negative battery cable to the battery and then raise the vehicle and hold it steady with jackstands. Take the splash screen off beneath the engine.
