Volkswagen Rabbit Alternator

The Volkswagen Rabbit Alternator makes the car lively by producing electricity which not only recharges the battery but also supplies power to the lights, fans, and screens as long as the engine operates. It was designed with a two-piece aluminum shell with a stator that is held still and a rotor rotating by the belt on the crankshaft. The rotating rotor passes a magnetic field across the stator windings, inducing alternating current that is immediately converted through internal diodes to direct current that fits the vehicle circuits. A regulator adjusts field current to the proper voltage. Previous Volkswagen compacts were dependent on a separate or internally mounted unit, but late-model Volkswagen models delegate that responsibility to the powertrain control module, ensuring that the output remains constant and that the battery is not overcharged. Every Alternator has brushes, bearings, a front-mounted pulley, and a small cooling fan that moves air through the casing to cool the unit. Heat sinks on the sides of the diodes are applied to ensure the rectifier survives continuous current flow. The dimensions of the unit combined with these features render it small enough to be located in the front of the engine bay of the Rabbit, which is the area with the great airflow. Since numerous add-ons that use electricity were added over the generations of Volkswagen, the output capacity increased, but the principle was the same. Power parts take an instant hold of the newly produced current rather than depleting the battery when the key is turned, demonstrating the importance of the part in day-to-day drives. A healthy Alternator is thus one of the highly reliable components under the hood.

Choose OEM Alternator for superior quality and long-lasting durability. They match the Volkswagen's factory specifications exactly and pass strict quality control. Volkswagen Rabbit Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the alternator on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
Loose the cable of the negative battery terminal and take off the engine cover. On four-cylinder models, disconnect the air inlet hoses, the turbocharger charge air pipe and the drivebelt. To remove the alternator, loosen the mounting bolts of the coolant pipe of the intake manifold without fully removing them, disconnect the electrical connecting devices of the alternator and disconnect the alternator mounting bolts. To take out the alternator in five-cylinders, remove the air inlet to the radiator support, position radiator support panel into the service position, remove drivebelts and other tensioners or interfering idlers, disconnect electrical connectors to the alternator and then remove alternator mounting fasteners. All the models are the same, just in order to install the alternator; the fasteners of the mounting are to be tightened. Lastly, reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery and test the charging voltage to ensure the operation of the alternator.
