In removing the cables, it is always important to unplug the cable to the negative battery terminal first and to connect the cable to the negative terminal last so as not to accidentally short out the battery with the tool used to loosen the cable clamp, in replacement of the cable to the positive terminal, always unplug the negative terminal cable first. Unconnect the old cables to the battery, follow each cable to its other end, and unconnect it, recording the path taken by the cable to be able to install it correctly. When buying new cables, one must always bring with him/her the old ones in order to replace them with the same ones, because it is important to buy the same type. Wipe the threads of solenoid or ground connection with a wire brush to remove rust and corrosion followed by a light coating of battery terminal corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly to block future corrosion. Connect the solenoid or ground connection to the cable and screw the mounting nut or bolt. Always make sure that a new cable does not stretch reaching the battery post before attaching it to the battery, after which the cable should be attached to the positive battery post, then by attaching the ground cable to the negative battery post.
