In order to break the latch, one must remove the
Hood and the grille, open the release coupling and unhook the hood latch cable. The next thing that needs to be done is to remove all the latch fasteners, pull out the latch assembly off the radiator support and remove the electrical connector off the latch assembly. Removal of the cable to the latch assembly. Disconnect the retaining clip and pry the cable retaining clip end back. To install it, in reverse sequence of removal. The hood release cable is two parts one connecting the hood release lever in the car to the release coupling and the other between the release coupling and the hood latch. In order to remove the release coupling-to-hood latch cable part, one must inject a small screwdriver inside vehicle between operating lever and clip, pry the clip back and take off the lever. To remove the cable, pry the front part of the sill trim, and the driver side kick panel and then remove the cable by pulling the cable housing out of the release lever and the cable end out of the release arm. To this end, plug a cable or a piece of string on the opposite end of the old cable in the engine compartment, and when inside the passenger compartment pull the cable through the cowl and into the passenger compartment. Attach the string or wire to the new cable and pass it through the cowl into the engine compartment, when installing it, remember to position all cable retaining clips to the same position as when they were initially attached. With the aid of support strut (only in 2010 and older models), open the hood and support it well in place, then take a small screwdriver to very carefully pick the retaining springs at each end of the support strut and take it off the car. The removal is followed by reverse installation.
