To change the front turn signal light the first step is to take off all the engine compartment covers or air intake ducts to access the
Headlight housing before rotating the bulb holder counter clockwise to loosen it and the bulb. Insert the bulb in the holder and turn it counterclockwise and take it out. In the case of the front parking light, open the headlight housing, pull out the plastic cover of the high beam bulb housing, and remove the bulb parking light holder and the bulb. Rabbit and GTI models- press the front of the side-marker light a little bit in and then press the back forward to pop the light out, then make the bulb holder turn counterclockwise to remove it and replace it correctly. In the case of Jetta, simply take off the under-vehicle splash shield, press the retaining tab in order to unlock the marker light, twist the bulb holder to take it off and vice versa. In the case of tail/stop/turn/back-up lights, unlock by pressing the release-tabs on the housing of the rear taillight, and unscrew the bulbs by twisting them counterclockwise. The tail/rear fog lights can be accessed by opening trunk lid or hatch, uncasing release clips in Jetta models or twisting bulb holder in Rabbit and GTI models and then disconnecting electrical connectors and twisting bulb to remove it. In the case of high-mount brake lights in sedans, take off the trim of the end strip of the roof, disconnect the electrical connector, and stick the light assembly as far back toward the rear-window as it can go to release it. In Rabbit, GTI, and Wagon models, press the brake light downwards to release the tabs, remove the housing and unplug the electrical connector. The license plate light bulb is obtained by screwing off the housing screws then pulling out the light housing and then by removing the bulb. Interior lights have instrument cluster lights not user-removable, and front dome lights, where the lens cover is removed and the bulbs pulled out. In the case of front reading/map lights, the lens cover or the trim panel should be removed and then the bulbs should be replaced. Vanity lights should be pried down so as to separate and then the bulb cover should be unhooked and the bulb removed. The glovebox light can be removed by opening the glovebox and opening the housing holding the light and removing the bulb. Finally, when it comes to the luggage compartment lights, pry the assembly off of the right spot, take off the electrical connector and the bulb.
