Removal of transaxle. Begin by removing the leaf spring mounting bolt at the end of the clutch release lever and removing the spring in 5 speed models. It is necessary to push the detent spring in the pivot direction to release the lever and then pull the lever and release bearing out of the guide sleeve. With a screwdriver, you should press the tabs down and remove the bearing off the lever and the plastic pivot of the ball stud. To 6-speed models, peel off the clip that attaches the breather assembly to the release unit, detach the breather assembly off the release cylinder, and immediately insert the breather assembly and close the release cylinder. Internal transaxle: Delete the mounting fasteners of the release cylinder/release bearing unit. To inspect five-speed models, grab the outer race of the bearing and spin the inner race with pressure, it should not turn easily and it should not make much noise when doing so and otherwise change it. Wipe the bearing, and examine it, not immersing in solvent, but looking after it, its damage, wear and cracks. In 6-speed models, look at the leaks and rotate the release bearing with pressure; change the unit in case of problems. Installation 5-speed models Start with lubrication of ball stud and plastic pivot using copper grease; then follow with spring to the release lever, making sure that the plastic pivot fits in. Install lever and bearing and press the release lever onto the ball stud until the spring holds. In 6-speed models, position the release cylinder/bearing on the transmission input shaft, firmly install and attach the mounting fasteners, re-attach the release cylinder O-ring and attach the breather assembly to the slave cylinder. The other part of the installation is the reversing steps of the de-installation such as bleeding the system, verifying the brake fluid reservoir level, and cleaning the spilled brake fluid using water.
