Volkswagen Rabbit Vacuum Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What precautions should be taken when disconnecting the battery and removing the vacuum pump on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
When the battery is switched off, a number of systems need to be re-learned before they can perform. This has a vacuum pump on models that have an automatic transmission. The first step is to start with removing the engine cover. Then, remove the cable of the negative battery terminal. Thereafter, disconnect the vacuum line to the pump, which is on the front side of the transmission. Then unplug electrical connector of vacuum pump and of harness connectors, positioning the harness aside. Unscrew the vacuum pump mounting bracket that holds the bolts and remove the pump and mounting bracket together. Deskell the pump and the bracket by taking away the vacuum pump-to-bracket retaining bolts. The opposite of removal is installation.
