  • Q: What steps are involved in removing and replacing the rear crankshaft seal, transaxle, flywheel/driveplate, and rear oil seal housing on 2004 Volkswagen Passat?
    A: In order to install the rear oil seal and housing, remove the transaxle and the flywheel/driveplate. Wipe down the surfaces prior to application of a fresh gasket. Install RTV sealant or original solid gasket. Install the housing, lubricate the seal lip and tighten the bolts evenly, after curing periods prior to the addition of oil.
