2007 Volkswagen Rabbit Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the engine components, including the oil pan and oil pump for Five-cylinder engines on 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit?
A: In order to take the engine out, firstly disconnect the transaxle to the engine and then carefully extract the lower oil pan and the front oil seal flange of the crankshaft. Relax the camshaft sprockets, and take out the control housing, the oil pump chain tensioner and the guide. Then loosen the pick-up tube with fasteners attached, and the pick-up tube, and its seal. Take off oil pan mounting fasteners and then pry off oil pan making sure that it is at the number 6 and number 1 crankshaft bearing caps with a flat blade screwdriver or similar tool. To install, remove all old sealant off of the block and oil pan, clean the mating surfaces with brake system cleaner and apply RTV silicone sealant to the oil pan-to-cylinder block mating surface. Clean the threaded bolt holes in the block, and ensure that the flange in the oil pan is not distorted, and that nicks or burrs are removed. Place a bead of RTV sealant on the 1/16-inch (2 mm) of the oil pan flange and place the upper oil pan on the cylinder block, with two mounting fasteners at the front and back, and install it by hand, but be sure that the surface of the control housing is flat. Install VW special tool #203611 or similar to hold the oil pan in place with the block of the cylinder. Install the oil pan with the special tool, look at the flush edges and install the rest of the oil pan bolts and secure all the fasteners in a diagonal pattern and to the correct torque. 2.Install the oil pick-up tube to the pump with a new seal, and fix the pick-up tube mounting fasteners to the oil pan and screw them to the required torque. Lastly, attach the oil pump timing chain and tensioner and finish the installation by reversing the removal process with the following consideration; the sealant manufacturer suggested the time it needs to dry before adding the oil.
