Take out the tie-rod end and indicate the proper position of the boot installed in the tie-rod. Unscrew the retaining clamps and move the boot to the side of the rack and pinion boot and tie-rod end. Clean the tie-rod and rack and pinion boot, and remove all traces of corrosion, burrs, or sharp edges which might cut the sealing lips of the new boot when fitting. Take the old boot and scrape off all of the grease on the old boot and apply it to the tie-rod inner balljoint using a fresh supply of grease in case there is any doubt of contamination. Install the new boot by sliding it on the tie-rod end and fitting into the rack and pinion boot, making sure that the outer edge fits in the mark made on the tie-rod and the boot is not twisted. To maintain the same air pressure in the outer sealing lip of the boot, lift the outer sealing lip and then hold the outer sealing lip in place with new retaining clamp(s). When using crimped type clamps, simply grab the clamp tighter and find the hooks in their slots and get any slackness out by pressing the raised part of the clip, with side cutters, but not by cutting the clip. Lastly, fit the tie-rod end.
