Volkswagen Rabbit Bumper

As the first line of defense, Volkswagen Rabbit Bumper absorbs the slight impact from collisions to cushion vital parts and safeguard occupants. The Bumper is mounted as heavy horizontal bars on the front and rear ends to direct impact energy away from the sheet metal and important systems such as the engine, radiator, exhaust, and lighting. The initial models on the small Volkswagen hatchback were made of heavy chrome-plated steel, which gave them a glossy appearance but increased the weight of the model. With the development of automotive design, Volkswagen embraced the use of plastic outer skins that conceal energy-absorbing foam or honeycomb fillers over lightweight steel or aluminum beams to enable the car to fulfill safety standards without necessarily adding mass and to resist rust. The newer covers come in finishes such as black paint, bright chrome, or a primer that can be color matched, and they can have mounting brackets or molding strips depending on the level of trim. Owners are free to choose single front or rear units or buy entire kits when both ends require some attention. In any style, every Bumper saves collision repair costs by bending before more expensive panels. When a unit gets bent, dented, or corroded, it is immediately replaced to restore the structural integrity of the car as well as maintain the smooth appearance that fans expect from Volkswagen. With simple online parts catalogs, drivers can simply input the model year to view compatible alternatives and have parts in just a few days, keeping every Rabbit on the road without any trouble.

Volkswagen Rabbit Bumper Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install front and rear bumpers on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
Front and rear bumpers are made up of fascia or bumper cover and structural beam made of metal. The first step in taking off the front bumper cover is to elevate the front of the car, and have it safely on jackstands, and take off the bottom splash shield, and the lower bumper cover screws. Lift the hood and loosen the radiator grille then loosen the fasteners that are on the upper mounting, the number of fasteners on the upper mounting is four on the Rabbit models and six on the 2011 Jetta models. Then take out the mounting fittings and the lower part of the inner fender splash shield. At both front wheelwells, loosen the fasteners out of the bumper cover and unclip the rear of the cover. In the case of Rabbit models, a screwdriver is needed to de-tab the two seizure tabs behind the lower grilles. In the event of a foglights, remove them and leave the ambient temperature sensor off. In case there is a front spoiler, use a remover with removable fasteners to remove the mounting fasteners and the spoiler. Slide the bumper assembly very carefully out away out of the front of the car and any washer hoes are disconnected if it has headlight wipers. In case the bumper cover has to be detached with the metal bumper, loosen the fasteners and catches. Removal is the opposite of installation where all the fasteners are loosely fitted before tightening. In case of the rear bumper cover, it is to work at the rear wheelwells to loosen the fasteners of the liner, pull the wheelwell liner down, and loosen the fasteners of the bumper cover to the wheelwell. Unscrew the taillight rear bumper cover lower fasteners, underneath the bumper cover, and the bumper cover upper fasteners. Take your time in removing the bumper cover assembly and slip it out of the rear of the car squarely and make sure that you remove the locking tabs one at a time. The fasteners can be taken off to remove the bumper support brackets. Removal is the opposite of installation where all the fasteners are loosely fitted before tightening.
