In order to unscrew the fuel pump and fuel level sensor module, first of all release the fuel system pressure and detach the cable to the negative battery terminal. The fuel pump module inspection hole cover is accessed by taking out the bench seat, pulling up the carpeting and taking off the access hole cover. With the four-cylinder models, the cover should be handled with care since the Fuel Pump Control Module is fitted. Take out the fuel pump module electrical connector and lines and label them to prevent confusion. Use a special tool or pliers and remove the fuel pump module lock ring and lift the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module out of the tank carefully avoiding the fuel level sensor float arm. Check the flange seal and change it in case it is damaged. To replace the sensor in the early model of the fuel level sensor, un-hook the electrical connectors and also un-lock the tabs used to lock the sensor, labeling the colors and position of the wires, first. Installation when placing the locking tabs make sure that they fit. In the later version, just lift the sensor to detach it off the retaining tab, pull off the wires and remove sensor. The opposite of removal is installation. Installation of fuel pump/fuel level sensor module has to be installed by positioning the tab on the module in line with the tank and then the lock ring before installation. The locking ring has a new seal, which should be used in case of damage to the previous one before fitting in the locking ring. Lastly, bleed the fuel system on five-cycled models.
