Volkswagen Rabbit Air Filter Box Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the Air Filter Box on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
The process is only applicable to the four cylinder CCTA and CBFA engines. Four-cylinder BPY engines and five-cylinder engines have an air filter housing which is included as part of the engine cover. The first step is to release the air guide top cover clips and remove the top cover. Then, disengage air guide lower clips then remove the guide. Unplug the electrical connector of the Mass Air flow (MAF) sensor. Markedly, unclamp the clamps that hold the air intake duct to the air filter housing, and unclamp the intake duct to the MAF sensor. Unmount the fasteners of the cover by taking off the air filter housing cover, but do not entirely take off the fasteners. Disassemble the air filter housing: take off the air filter housing mounting fastener, then pick up the air filter housing and separate it at the base of the intake air duct. During the time when the housing is away examine the state of the water drain and hose. Blow out all the parts with compressed air prior to re-assembling and installing the air filter housing. The opposite of removing is installation.
