Volkswagen Rabbit Hood Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How should the hood be removed and installed, and what steps are necessary for proper alignment and adjustment on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
Removal and installation of the hood are clumsy and therefore, two persons are required to carry out this process. To cover the Fenders and the cowl part of the body, start with blankets or pads. Take the hood hinge harness cover by sliding the locking tab all the way to the left, removing the windshield washer hose and electrical connector, and then the harness cover. draw hinge plates alignment marks around the plates with permanent marker so as to have the same installation. In models with years up to 2010, an assistant will hold the hood during the removal of the upper end of the hood support strut. Secondly, hang the hinge-to-hood nuts and lift off the hood, and the reverse is also true. Adjustment would require fore and aft and side to side movement of the hood in relation to the hinge plates after loosening the nuts. Loosen the nuts and position the hood in the right position slowly by slowly then clamp the hinge nuts and lower the hood carefully to ensure that the position is right. Turn the hood bumpers in or out to make the hood lie flat with the fenders when it is closed and tilt the safety latch assembly up-and-down and side-to-side after loosening the nuts. Lastly, screw in or out the radiator support screws at the ends of the radiator to adjust the buffers.
