Volkswagen Transporter Instrument Cluster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What steps should be taken to safely remove the instruments from the Instrument Cluster on on Volkswagen Transporter?
    A:
Disconnect the battery if removal is contemplated. The instruments are housed in a console secured to the dash by four screws. Before lifting the console, the four ventilation and heating control levers must be removed, which requires more than simply pulling off the blue and red knobs, as the levers are fixed inside. Once the levers are removed and the screws taken out, lift the console slightly and detach the speedometer cable by unscrewing the cable union, ensuring to hold the union near the end with adhesive tape. After the electrical connections have been removed from their terminals, the instruments can be taken out of the console. If there is any uncertainty about replacing the wires correctly, mark them with tape or colored tags before disconnecting them.
