The pump and the gauge sender unit are housed in a single unit, which is attached on the top of the
Fuel Tank, which can be accessed through a hatch at the load space floor. In order to take out the unit, empty the fuel system, pull the vehicle to the flat surface and disconnect the negative cable of the battery, having the activation code of any anti-theft stereo system. The second step is to take the trim out of the load space floor, loosen and remove the screws of the access hatch and remove the hatch. Disconnection: Unplug the wiring harness connector of the pump/sender unit and pad the surrounding of the fuel hoses with rags to dry up any overflowing fuel and then loosen the hose clamps and take them out of the ports, labeling the hoses accordingly to reconnect them in their proper positions. Unscrew the plastic securing ring with water pump pliers, rotate the pump/sender unit to the left to unlock it in its bayonet fitting, and remove it letting the excess fuel to drain. Check the float, make sure the fuel pick-up is free of damage, use a check-up of the rubber seal against fatigue, and clean-up the wiper and track of the sender unit. To install, reversing the steps in removing, align the arrow signs on the sender unit body and the fuel tank, apply the rubber seal on the tank aperture, making sure that the float arm is directed at the front left of the car, and reconnecting the fuel hoses into the proper ports following the markings of direction of flow.
