Volkswagen Cabrio Sway Bar Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install a sway bar on Volkswagen Cabrio?
    A:
To detach the stabilizer bar the first step is to loosen the wheel bolts then chock the rear wheels, securely push the parking brake, jack the front side of the vehicle and use the axle stands to hold it before removing both front wheels. The next step will be to remove both connecting links and make alignment marks between the stabilizer bar and mounting bushings. Unscrew the two mounting clamp retaining bolts, and then take both the clamps out of the subframe and position the stabilizer bar out of the bottom of the vehicle, stripping the mounting bushings off the bar. Inspect the stabilizer bar components thoroughly to check any wear, damage or deterioration especially the mounting bushings and replace worn parts where applicable. To install, first attach the rubber mounting bushings to the stabilizer bar positioning each bushing along with the marks you have previously drawn and be sure that the split of each bushing is on the back side. Install the stabilizer bar in place and mount the mounting clamps with the ends of the mounting clamp correctly placed in the mounting hook of the subframe and the retaining bolts are installed keeping the bushing markings in place. Tighten the mounting clamp with bolts securely and follow this by installing the connecting links. Lastly, replace the wheels, roll the vehicle to the ground and screw the wheel bolts to the required torque.
