Removal of water pump and thermostat housing assembly To do this, drain the cooling system and unscrew the negative battery cable, and have the anti-theft activation code to the stereo (where available). Then, dismount the alternator, and, in the power steering models, the power steering pump. In case the car is equipped with air-conditioning, loosen the compressor of the bracket and shift it without removing the lines of refrigerant. Unscrew and unscrew the retaining bolts and remove the pulley installed in the water pump and loosen the nuts holding the alternator mounting bracket in place and remove the bracket. Undo the retaining clamps of the coolant hoses attached on the rear of the water pump and thermostat housing. Unfasten the retaining studs or bolts that connect the water pump and thermostat housing to the block, and take the part apart, being careful to retain and dispose of the sealing ring so that it can be replaced in the process. Using a work bench, loosen the screws holding the pump to the housing and remove the pump, disliking the old gasket and replacing it with a new one during installation. To install, clean and dry the mating surfaces of the pump and the housing, place a new gasket on the housing. Connect the water pump to the housing, and screw up the retaining bolts to the required torque. Install a new sealing ring in the recess on the housing assembly, connect the housing to the cylinder block and fix them using the retaining studs or bolts and tightening them to the required torques. Re-attach the coolant hoses and re-attach the clamps, re-attach the alternator mounting bracket and tighten the nuts. Install the pulley on the water pump making sure the retaining bolts are tight and reconnect the power steering pump and air conditioning compressor (as needed). Lastly, replace the cooling system and the alternator.
