How to remove and install the distributor rotor and cap on Volkswagen Cabrio?

Unscrew the distributor shield (where present), distributor cap, and remove the rotor at the end of the distributor shaft. Check the contacts of the distributor shaft and cleanse them (where necessary). To install, just do everything in reverse and make sure that the rotor alignment lug fits into the recess of the distributor shaft and then carefully screw the distributor cap back on.
