- Q: How are the horns positioned and accessed on Volkswagen Jetta?A:Two horns are also created on the back of the front bumper cover, which is bolted to each end of the front bumper reinforcement bar, the high-tone horn on the passenger side and the low-tone horn on the driver side, with other models having a single horn. The horn can be reached by first removing the bumper cover in some instances they may be reached underneath without the removal of the cover. The second step is to unscrew the electrical connector, undo the fastener and unscrew the horn. Removal is the opposite of installation.
- Q: How to check and replace a faulty horn on Volkswagen Passat?A:Take out the cover of the under-dash fuse/relay box and inspect the relay. Check the horn fuse 40 (25A) in the fuse panel at the left end of the instrument panel. Lift the car and place it on jack-stands. Unhook the electrical connectors of the horns that are in the front fender well, just behind the front bumper cover that can be reached under the vehicle. Test with a voltmeter to verify that there is battery voltage at the voltage supply wire terminal to the horns, press the horn button on, and have an assistant pressure the horn button. Should the relay be operating and there exists no voltage at the horn then the wire to the relay has fault. Measure the resistance between the wiring connector brown wire and a good ground using an ohmmeter and this should be less than 5.0 ohms; otherwise, fix the fault in the ground circuit. When the horn has some voltage and wiring circuits are in place, then the horn is defective and requires replacement. To change, one must disconnect the electrical connectors, remove the mounting bolts and remove the horns and install the new horns by following the same steps.
