With AEB and ATW engines do not lose the
Oil Pan, first remove the baffle plate at the bottom of the crankcase. Unscrew the bolts to remove the suction pipe off the oil pump including the O-ring seal. Then loosen the large oil pump mounting bolts, remove the pump off the block, drawing the sub-frame if necessary downwards. Check the oil pump by unscrewing the two bolts to remove the cover which contains the pressure relief valve. Clean and verify the wear and damage of all the components, measure backlash and end play of the gears with the specifications. In case of any damage detected, it is best to replace the whole oil pump assembly. To install, wash the contact faces and connect the cover to the oil pump and tighten the bolts to the required torque. Prepare the pump with oil as the driveshaft turns, clean oil pump and block before fitting the pump and attaching the mounting bolts. Install a new O-ring seal on the pick-up tube and place it on the oil pump which then remains fixed by bolts. Install other parts in reverse order then add oil, turn on the engine, test oil pressure, and oil leakage and retest engine oil level. In the case of AUG and AWM engines, disassemble the
Timing Belt, crankshaft drive sprocker, and afterwards reattach the passenger side engine mount to help hold the engine steady when removing the oil pan and pump. Go ahead and disassemble the oil pan and the crankshaft front oil seal housing, and the oil pump drive chain tensioner. Label the sprocket and chain that drives the oil pump to be properly reinstated and then retain the sprocket with a screwdriver and loosen the retaining bolt. Disassemble the oil pump drive chain and driven sprocket, remove the pick-up tube on the oil pump body and extract the pick-up tube and O-Ring. Installation Disassemble the oil pump and the oil pan baffle and the engine by removing the mounting bolts. Clean up all parts and check wear, and, perhaps, replace whole oil pump assembly. To install, remove any old sealant and gasket material scrape off the old sealant and gasket material, clean the surfaces and mount the oil pump on top of the dowel pins on the engine block using bolts. Install the oil pan baffle plate and then place the rest of the mounting bolts, then tighten the mounting bolts in a criss-cross design to prevent warping. Install a new O-ring on the pick-up tube assembly that picks up the oil and tighten the bolts. Install the oil pump drive chain and driven sprocker again in the same direction with the bolt of the driven sprocker being tightened to the recommended standards. Install the drive chain tensioner loosely, and then put the tab into the tensioner spring and tighten the retaining bolt. Fit the other components in the reverse order making sure that the crankshaft front oil seal housing comes in place before the oil pan. Lastly, add oil, turn on engine, watch the oil pressure, and oil leakages, and test the engine oil level.
