How to remove and install the Valve Cover for Four-cylinder engines on Volkswagen Passat?

The engine cover is removed by first removing the piping of the PCV system and the combination valve, where present. Where appropriate, unscrew the clip on the crankcase breather hose and the bolts that hold the breather pipe in place on the engine then take off the pipe. The second step would be to remove the ignition coils and then the heat shield of the valve cover by loosening the nut and bolts. Take off upper timing belt cover and ground straps of valve cover and loosen the valve cover of the cylinder head by removing the holding nuts. Squeezed cover: Loosely hammer the cover with a block of wood and a hammer or carefully cut the seal with a flexible putty knife without damaging the surfaces that are used to seal them. To install, make sure that the mating surfaces of the housing or cylinder head and cover are clean using a gasket scraper and cleaning with lacquer thinner or acetone to avoid the leakage of oil. Check the rubber end plug and change it where necessary. Seal with RTV the corners of the camshaft front bearing cap and the ends of the camshaft drive chain tensioner as they would meet the cylinder head. Install a new valve cover gasket and the spark plug tube grommet gasket over the studs on the cylinder head with the index marks aligning with the end of the timing belt. Fit the valve cover and any brackets that have been removed and screw on the retaining nuts to the required screwdriver tightness. Lastly, install the rest of the parts, start the engine and verify no leakage of oil.
