Check the control arm balljoints on their looseness whenever any of them is dislocated between the steering knuckle by trying to move the ballstud in the socket with your fingers; when they are loose, or when the steering knuckle can move the ballstud, change the balljoint. In order to test the balljoints when the suspension is fitted, lift the front part of the car and position it on the jackstands safely on the frame rails. Install a floor jack underneath the front lower control arm and lift it a little and then try to lift the steering knuckle up and down either by a large prybar under the tire or between the end of control arm and steering knuckle, and in case of play is detected, change the balljoint. Also, attempt to move the steering knuckle in-and-out, by jerking the tire inwards and outwards and watching the area of balljoint attachment; in case of any play is experienced or observed, replace the balljoint. Inspect the balljoint boot by looking at the joints used and check whether there are any cracks or tears on them and change the balljoint should there be any cracks or tears found. To replace it, take off the wheel trim, or the hub cap, where necessary, and loosen the driveaxle or hub bolt a quarter turn, with the car on its wheels, and also loosen the wheel bolts. Lift the front of the car and place it on jack stands so that the rear tire does not roll and then take off the wheel and driveaxle or hub bolt, making sure to install a driveaxle or hub bolt of the same type. Take the nut of the balljoint to steering knuckle a couple of turns without fully removing it, then take away the nuts of the balljoint to control arm. Disassemble the control arm with the balljoint, dislodge the driveaxle of the hub to the extent needed to insert a small balljoint separator and detach the balljoint stud of the steering knuckle making sure that the nut remains loose so it does not violently separate. Unscrew the nut and take out the balljoint of the steering knuckle, and screw in the new balljoint of the steering knuckle as well as screw in the nut of the steering knuckle without screwing it in to the end. Install the balljoint to the lower arm and attach the fasteners to the required torque and the balljoint-to-steering knuckle nut to the required torque as well. Lastly, fit the wheel and bolts, lower the vehicle, tighten the wheel bolts to the required torque and then fit a new driveaxle or hub bolt and tighten it to the required torque.
