The installation of flywheel and clutch components depends on the kind of transaxle fitted and the clutch pressure plate is attached directly to the end of the crankshaft and the flywheel is then attached to the pressure plate by bolts, which requires inspection of the flywheel when it is removed. In automatic transaxle models, this is also furnished with the torque converter driveplate similarly bolted to the crankshaft, and requires the removal of both the automatic transaxle and torque converter. To loosen the driveplate, first loosen the transaxle, and then fix the driveplate in place by framing a scrap piece of metal between it and one of the transaxle bellhousing mounting holes and noting the position of the driveplate to the crankshaft with a dab of paint. Once all the driveplate mounting bolts are loosened and removed, remove the driveplate and salvage the packing plate and shim as needed. Installation is a back-cleaning of the removal process, with the help of the alignment marks previously made, the mounting bolts are tightened to the recommended torque and the locking tool is removed and the transaxle is put into place. In inspecting the flywheel, in case the mating surface of the clutch is scored deeply, he or she may crack the surface or damage the surface, then he or she will need to replace the surface, but the surface might not be deep and the ring gear is worn out or has no teeth, then he or she will need to replace the flywheel.
