The camshaft cover can be removed by firstly detaching the cable on the negative terminal of the battery, but remember to have the right activation code of the anti-theft system in case it was installed. In the case of the 2.0L engine, you will need to take away the throttle body air intake duct and then take off the upper intake manifold. Slacken the retaining nuts of the edge of the camshaft cover, one by one out, gradually. In the case of 1.8L, disconnect the crankcase breather hose on the cover through cutting off the crimp-type clamp and attaching a worm-drive clamp. Unplug throttle cable to facilitate greater access and then loosen and take off the retaining nuts surrounding camshaft cover. Lift off the cover, which is attached to the cover by small blows of a soft-faced mallet in case of sticking, and lift off the oil baffle plate (which may be in place) taking note of the way it is positioned. Install the camshaft cover gasket and it might have a few components, including a rubber gasket that can be reused but others have to be replaced. Wipe the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft cover dry before proceeding to wipe the rest of the engine parts. To install: Reversible procedure, make sure that the gasket is properly positioned and that the retaining screws/nuts are properly tightened to the required torque. Substitute all the hoses that had originally been connected with crimp-type clamps with standard worm-drive clamps, and, lastly, reconnect the cable to the negative post of the battery.
