To take off steering column, it is important to park the vehicle straight and disconnect negative battery cable coupled with the airbag system. Step 2: next, take out the steering wheel, lower instrument panel trim, steering column covers, airbag system clock spring and multi-function switch. In the case of models which have an automatic transmission, it is important to disconnect the shift interlock cable at the ignition switch. Clamp the bottom part of the steering column to the top part using a wire, label the position of the steering shaft lower universal joint relative to the steering gear input shaft and take out the nut on the pinch bolt that holds the universal joint.
