To test the wiper motor circuit, first of all, check the wiring diagrams of wires colors and positions. To test the voltage, place a grounded 12 volt test light in one of the terminals at a connector until it becomes lit. When problems arise, refer to a dealer service department or a service shop. When wipers are slow, the battery should be in good condition and fully charged, if that is the case then remove the wiper motor and use the wiper arms manually to check that the linkage and pivots are not bound together and make sure the lubricant is there, or replace accordingly and then re-insert the wiper motor. A prolonged slow running should be checked by examining the connections (especially the ground connection) and replacing the motor in case of satisfactory connection. In the event of a failure to turn on wipers, verify the fuse and in the event of a good fuse; jumper wire may be connected between the ground terminal on wiper motor and ground. In case the motor is running, repair the ground connection, otherwise check at the motor with the wiper switch in HI position (Remember the cowl cover would have to be removed so as to reach the electrical connector). In case of voltage, disconnect the motor and test it outside the car using fused jumper wires between the battery, should it be fine, look at the binding linkage and should it not be fine, replace it. When not voltage is received by the motor, verify that there is voltage at the wiper control relays, and when there is, verify the switch is continuous; in case the switch is sound, there is the possibility of a faulty wiper control relay. In an inoperative interval type, examine the continuity of wiring between the switch and the wiper control module. When wipers do not stop when the switch is in the off position, verify voltage at the park feed wire of the connector of the wiper motor to the switch with the switch off and ignition on; and absence of this voltage indicates there is an open circuit between the wiper motor and the fuse panel. To replace, shut the ignition switch and take the key out and then note the positions of the wiper arms on the windshield and then remove them removing the wiper arms cover and loosening the nut on the wiper shaft with a wrench. Unhook the washer hose with the wiper arm, the windshield cowl cover and the cover on the ECM. Unscrew the ECM housing mounting nuts and push the housing forward to clear then unplug the wiper motor harness connector, and unscrew the windshield wiper motor/linkage assembly mounting nuts. Take the wiper motor assembly out of the cowl area, loosen the motor mounting nuts and part the motor out of the assembly, and installing by reversing the procedure. In the case of the rear wiper motor, the inner trim panel in the hatch area should be removed, the wiper motor harness connector removed, and the mounting bolts removed and then the assembly lifted out of the hatch area, then part of the steps should be followed to install it.
