To install the timing belt (BPY) engine of four-cylinder models, the electrical connector on the MAF sensor can be disconnected, and then the mounting fasteners are removed and the sensor is pulled out of the top of the air filter housing, and installed in reverse. The process in timing chain (CCTA, CBFA) engines is somewhat the same in that the electrical connector is disconnected, the mounting fasteners removed to remove the sensor in the inlet duct, and the same is done to the mounting fasteners to install the sensor. On five-cylinder models, the MAF sensor is no longer required so, on 2009 and later, to remove the sensor, remove the ambient air inlet duct, loosen the hose clamp to separate the air intake duct and the MAF sensor, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the mounting fasteners and remove the sensor out of the sensor housing, and vice versa to reattach it.
