Volkswagen Rabbit Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to access and replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
In the four-cylinder models, the sensor of CKP is hard to reach because it is positioned right behind the oil filter housing. Take off the engine oil, and then the oil filter housing. The following step is to remove the electrical connector on the CKP sensor, the mounting fastener and then the CKP sensor. Installation is the reverse of the removal. In the case of five-cylinder models, lift the front of the vehicle and put it steadily on jackstands, and block the opposite end of the wheel before removing the right front wheel. Disconnect the sensor connector by removing the engine speed sensor on the control housing close to the flywheel and following the electrical lead to the vehicle undercarriage. Once the mount fasteners are removed, remove the sensor, and it is the same way in reverse.
