- Q: How to remove and install the intake manifold for single-point fuel injection on Volkswagen Cabrio?A:In order to take out intake manifold, initially, unconnect the negative cable of battery and empty the coolant in the engine. Then take the throttle body out of the intake manifold, taking off the gasket and, with a throttle body, the intermediate flange. Lighten the clamps and remove the coolant hoses to the intake manifold followed by breaking the vacuum hose of the brakes booster off the manifold port. Unplug the harness wiring at the connector which connects to the intake manifold heater and start to loosen and then remove the nuts and screws that secure the manifold to the cylinder head until the manifold is secured completely. Once you have ensured that nothing is hooked, unhook the manifold out of the engine bay and salvage the gasket. When required, loosen the screws holding it and pull out the manifold heater unit. To install, repeat the opposite process, but remember that the surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head are clean and dry. Install a new gasket on the manifold and screw the retaining nuts to the desired torque base, and all the hoses should be reattached. The last step is to install the throttle body and top up the cooling system.

Installation: Take out the two screws holding the electrical connector bracket to the coolant pipe, loosen all the electrical connectors around the intake flap motor. Snip the cable ties that are holding the wiring harnesses to the coolant pipe and pull the harnesses out of the way and remove the connector bracket. Unscrew the bolt that attaches the bracket of the coolant pipe and kick out the coolant pipe. Unscrew the rod that opens the intake flap motor connected to the crank arm on the intake manifold with a screwdriver, remove the intake flap motor, unscrew the mounting fixtures on the intake flap motor. On the timing chain of the CCTA and CBFA engines, the timing chain should be removed by removing the engine cover, then disconnecting the vacuum hose of the vacuum actuator and the connection with the crank arm. Loosen the actuator-fasteners and extract the actuator out of the manifold. The order of removal is reversed in reinstallation.
