These models have an anti-theft radio installed in them and therefore, disconnection of the battery should be done with the activation code. Disconnection of the battery may cause the vehicle to have complications in driving, and may also cause warning lights to appear on the instrument panel which is to be turned off by a scan tool. In the majority of public scan tools, it is not possible to carry out these tasks at which point they may be required to visit a dealer service department or a service work properly equipped repair facility. The first step in the process of removing the vehicle is to position the car in a straight position with the front tires straight, place parking brakes, chock the rear tires, loosen the front tire bolt, place the vehicle on jackstands, and detach the front tires. Get the battery out of the engine compartment, make the
Steering Wheel turn to the mid position then take out the ignition key to start the steering lock but note that the
Steering Column should be straight to prevent mispositioning of the contact unit of the airbag. Take off the driver side under-dash panel, stabilize the lower part of the steering column to the upper part and then unscrew the nut of the pinch bolt that holds the universal joint at the bottom of the steering column to the steering gear. Turn the eccentric bolt to release it and remove it out of the joint and remove the steering column universal joint off the steering gear input shaft and place it aside. Drain the power steering fluid reservoir, use hose clamps to reduce leakage and unscrew the pressed-metal nut that secures the inner wheel well liner that conceals the tie-rod end entry. Disattach the fluid supply and the return lines with the steering gear and be sure to wash the connection prior to removing and emptying the fluid in a container. Unscrew the
Steering Knuckle tie-rod end clamps, unbolt the steering gear mounting bolts, ensure that everything is clear, unclip the plastic collar in the pinion housing, and remove the steering gear through the wheel well on the left. The steering gear may require replacement in case it is damaged or very worn out though it can be overhauled. Installing, make sure the steering gear is centred by taking out the socket head bolt in the inspection hole, push the right-side tie-rod till the alignment hole opens, and fit a conical-pointed bolt to hold the steering gear in the centre position. Position the steering gear in the engine compartment, screw the securing bolts in till they fit and screw in till they have reached the recommended torque, unscrew the locking bolt with the alignment hole and screw the original plug back in. Installation needs to be completed by connecting the pressure and return line fittings with new sealing washers, re-connecting the tie-rod ends, filling up the level of the fluid, bleeding the system, tightening the wheel bolts, and verifying the alignment on the wheel.
