Volkswagen Rabbit A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What precautions should be taken when disconnecting the battery and removing the A/C accumulator on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
If the battery is disconnected, several systems must be re-learned before they will work properly. First, have the air conditioning system discharged. Next, remove the engine cover. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Then, remove the under-vehicle splash shield. After that, remove the front bumper and place the radiator support panel in the service position. Proceed to remove the receiver-drier upper mounting fastener to the condenser, followed by the removal of the retaining clip. Next, take out the receiver-drier lower mounting fasteners and lift the receiver drier up and out of the condenser. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the fasteners are tightened securely. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
