Unscrew the wheel bolts, elevate the vehicle and make sure it is on jackstands that will ensure it is firmly on them and then remove the wheel. Unscrew the
Brake Caliper but leave the
Brake Hose connected so that it can hang freely by the help of a length of wire to avoid straining the hose. Install the wheel bolts again to fix the disc to the hub where necessary with a possible filler of washers. Check visually the disc surface marks of score, cracks and any other damage, light scratches and shallow grooves are normal, deep scratches in score or cracks may require refinishing or replacing. Test the disc on both sides to confirm that all is well and in case of pulsation during braking the disc may be running out. Three procedures can be used to determine the runout of discs; they include measuring the disc with a dial indicator by placing it at a distance of approximately 1/2 inch of the outer edge of the disc, positioning the dial indicator to zero and then turning the disc; any readings that are above 0.003 inch may need to be refinished or replaced. Make sure that one does not machine below the recommended minimum thickness required on the disc, which is generally etched into the surface of the disc and read the thickness using a micrometer. To fit, disconnect the brake caliper by wiring, disconnect the caliper mount bracket and loosen the screws that hold the disc as well as the wheel bolts. Wipe the hub flange and inside the brake disc as thoroughly as possible to remove any rust or corrosion and also apply a low layer of anti-seize to avoid future problems. Fit the disc on the hub screwed on with the retaining screw, then re-connect the brake caliper mounting bracket and screw the bolts in place. Install the caliper and brake pad, and tighten all bolts to required torque. Lastly, install the wheel again, lower the car and screw the wheel nuts then press the brake pedal a few times so that the brake pads grab the disc, monitor the brake and the parking brake and then restore the vehicle back to regular service.
