Volkswagen Rabbit Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What precautions should be taken regarding the fuel injector and fuel rail on the fuel system and battery disconnection on Volkswagen Rabbit?
    A:
It is recommended to be careful with five-cylinder models that the fuel system should be bled once it has been opened otherwise the catalytic converter could be damaged. In the process of discharging the battery, a number of the systems need to be remodelled to work. Start by releasing the pressure in the fuel system, disconnecting the negative battery terminal and also detach the engine cover. Cover the fuel line connections in front of the engine with a shop rag and unscrew the fitting, stuffing the supply line and fuel rail. In four-cylinder models, unscrew the intake duct off the Throttle Body, remove electrical connections and hoses off the intake manifold and loosen mounting brackets of coolant pipes. As needed de-aerate coolant and disconnect radiator hose. Take out the dipstick and tube, and disconnect the fittings of fuel lines at the high-pressure pump, and the turbocharger coolant return hose. Un-attach the Fuel Pressure Sensor and the support bracket of the intake manifold, remove the intake manifold and fuel rail as a unit, old gasket included. In the case of BPY engines, there are a series of steps to be used when removing the throttle body and the charge air pipe. In case of CCTA and CBFA engines, it is a requirement to disconnect all electrical connections and hoses prior to the removal of the intake manifold. To detach fuel injectors, turn off the radial compensator tabs and pliers may be needed. Check and change damaged components, and take off old sealing rings. To reassemble, clean up injector grooves and install new seals by either special equipment or socket technique. Proper installation of the spacer ring, the O-ring, support ring, and radial compensator is essential. Installation of the fuel injectors into the cylinder head involves cleaning the injector bores and ensuring that the injectors are in place. Install a new gasket on the intake and attach it to the cylinder head matching up injectors with notches. With five-cylinder models, unplug electrical connectors, disassemble fuel rail mounting fasteners, and lift the fuel rail and injectors unit. Install new O-rings into injectors, apply engine oil to them and fix in the fuel rail. Lastly, connect the fuel rail assembly on the intake manifold, fasteners, and bleed the fuel system and inspect leakages.
