In case of mistakes, the engine will suffer serious damages; the process should not be performed by an untrained person in this kind of repair. In case uncertain of capabilities, seek advice of someone with knowledge and ensure that all work is completed before one tries to start the engine. Interim inspection of camshafts and lifters must be done before fitting, and prior to withdrawal of camshafts, endplay inspection must be done. The camshafts may not be pulled out of the camshaft housing on 1.4L (CZTA, DGXA) models, and in the situation of an issue, the camshafts and housing have to be replaced together. Untether the cable on the negative terminal of the battery, empty the cooling system, pull out air filter housing, resonator, take out the water pump, ignition coils, high-pressure fuel pump, and disconnect the electrical connector on different sensors. Disassemble the turbocharger coolant pipes, fasteners of the heat shield, upper cover of the timing belt, and position the engine at TDC. The camshaft housing bolts should be loosened in the reversal order in which they were tightened, and the camshaft housing should then be carefully removed in relation to the cylinder head, and all remnants of the gasket sealing compound removed. Cylinder head Mark and remove the roller rocker and lifters as they occur in the cylinder head, making sure that they are re-inserted in their respective positions. In the case of camshaft sprockets, special tools should be used so as not to turn when loosening bolts and installation of new seals should also be done so as to maintain cleanliness. Installation On 2.0L (CBPA) models, proceed the same way, but make sure to align and fit correctly and to use the appropriate torque specification. In 1.8L and 2.0L timing chain models, the camshaft bearings should not be machined, but should be incorporated and have to be followed through the removal and installation steps with care, checking all the marks and alignments. Refilling the cooling system, clean and lubricate all parts, and install in the right sequence and leakage.

The products are assembled and none of them can be left behind. The halves of the crankcase should be clean both internally and externally and all residues of jointing compounds should be removed off of mating faces, stud roots, and chamfers; a solvent such as carbon tetrachloride should be used rather than scraper, which tends to damage the aluminium surface. They should remove the distributor drive gear and the suction pipe of an oil pump should be fitted in place, peening it in place in case it is loose. Install the left half of a crankcase on the bench, with the flywheel end off, lubricate the four cam followers and verify their thickness to originals, where appropriate, in case of new part. Install the cam followers, and temporarily install the camshaft to test clearance; relieve the crankcase can be done as required. Install the flanged No. 1 bearing shell at the flywheel end, and have the dowel peg hole in proper position, and lubricate the bearing surface. Install one-half of the split shell at No. 2 bearing, lubricate and fit the crankshaft assembly into the left half of the crankcase after taking appropriate care in aligning dowel holes and connecting rods. Install the camshaft bearing shells and lubricate them and position the camshaft gear so that it fits into the crankshaft gear. Install tappets to the right half of the crankcase with grease in case of necessity and install the other half of No. 2 bearing shell accordingly. Coating crankcase halves with a thin layer of aluminium alloy jointing compound on the mating surfaces, with no obstruction in the oilways. Install rubber sealing rings (and install them carefully, thoroughly, and evenly) then position the right half crank case to slide over the studs on the left one until it snaps against the crankshaft bearings. Apply jointing compound to the sealing plug of the camshaft, then pop it into place, then screw the two halves of the camshaft together. Ensure that all the parts are fitted such as connecting rods, bearings, gears, oil thrower disc, cam followers, and the camshaft before attaching all the nuts on the studs with fingers firmly tight and rotating the crankshaft to allow free movement. Install the stud nuts in the proper sequence to a tightening of 1.5 mkg, six large nuts first, then the medium size nuts, and then the small nut close to the lower large nut screwed in. Turn the big nuts gradually to 20 ft lbs and then 25 ft lbs, then gradually the smaller nuts to 14 ft lbs. Lastly, the crankshaft should be turned to ensure a smooth movement; in case of stiffness loosen all crankcase nuts and check any bearing position problems or dirt creating pressure points and make sure that the tightness is solved before moving on.
